Sell a website builder made for one kind of business
Build a simple website builder for owners who aren't technical, made for one type of business such as dentists, cleaners, or food trucks, and charge them a monthly subscription.
The hard part: reaching owners in one trade, who don't hang out where software founders do, and making templates good enough that they don't hire a designer instead.
Who pays
Small business owners pay a monthly subscription to build and host their site. evgenyeyt reports that a general website builder for small businesses and non-technical users, launched in May 2025, has 373 active subscribers, $8.2k MRR (monthly subscription revenue), and an 85% profit margin. These are the poster's own figures. Nobody reports revenue for a version narrowed to one trade, so any price you set is a suggestion.
How to build it
Pick one type of business
Choose one trade, such as dentists, cleaners, or food trucks, that needs a website but doesn't want to learn a general builder. Look at 20 of their current sites and note what's missing.
List what their sites need
Write down the few pages and features that trade always needs, such as booking for cleaners, a menu and today's location for food trucks, or services and insurance info for dentists.
Build templates and a simple editor
Use Claude Code or Cursor to build three or four templates and an editor where owners fill in a form instead of designing pages. Store accounts and site content in Supabase.
Host sites with custom domains
Publish each customer's site on Vercel and let them connect their own domain name.
Add a monthly subscription
Use Stripe Checkout for the monthly plan, with a free preview so owners can see their site before paying.
Go where the owners already are
Reach owners through trade Facebook groups, local associations, and suppliers who sell to that trade. Speak to their outcome, more bookings or customers, not to the software.
