Sell students an app that turns lectures into quizzes

Build a study app where students upload their own lectures, textbooks and PDFs and get back quizzes, flashcards and an AI voice tutor. Students pay a monthly subscription.

The hard part: getting students to find your app among many study tools and keep using it after exams end.

Who pays

Students preparing for exams pay a subscription to turn their own course material into practice questions and flashcards. One app like this, listed for sale on Acquire.com, reports $640K in revenue over the last 12 months from 6,400+ paying subscribers. Neither source gives a price, so a monthly price of around $10 with a cheaper yearly plan is only our suggestion.

How to build it

  1. Pick one group of students

Start with one exam or subject, such as nursing boards or first-year biology, so your quizzes and marketing speak to one group.

  2. Build the upload and quiz app

Use Claude Code or Cursor to build a web app on Vercel where students upload PDFs, slides or lecture notes. Store accounts and files in Supabase.

  3. Generate quizzes and flashcards

Send each uploaded file to Claude and ask it for multiple-choice questions, flashcards and short explanations based only on that material. Save them so students can review them again.

  4. Add a voice tutor later

Once quizzes work, add a voice mode where students ask questions out loud about their own material, using a text-to-speech service like ElevenLabs.

  5. Charge a monthly subscription

Give a few free quizzes, then ask for a monthly or yearly plan through Stripe Checkout.

  6. Reach students where they study

Post short videos showing a real lecture turning into a quiz on TikTok and Instagram, and share the app in student groups for your chosen subject.
