Clean up Shopify stores' product data for AI shoppers

A done-for-you service for small Shopify stores. You use AI with access to the store to fix messy variant names, thin descriptions, and missing product details so AI shopping assistants can read the catalog. Merchants pay a one-time cleanup fee.

The hard part: finding store owners who already care about AI shopping assistants and will pay for cleanup now.

Who pays

Small Shopify merchants pay a one-time fee to clean up their product catalog, and you can offer an optional monthly plan to keep new products tidy. Neither source reports anyone charging for this, so the pricing is only our suggestion.

How to build it

  1. Get access to the client's store

Have the merchant create a custom app in Shopify's Dev Dashboard with read and write permissions for products and content, then share the access details with you.

  2. Find the gaps in the catalog

Export the products and have Claude list the thin descriptions, unclear variant names, and missing tags, SEO titles, and product details.

  3. Rewrite and fill in product data

Use Claude to rewrite descriptions in a clear, structured way and add meta titles, tags, and fields such as material, use case, certifications, and care instructions.

  4. Review with the owner first

Show the merchant a sample of changes and get their approval before you push everything to the live store through the custom app.

  5. Expand the store's FAQ

Add FAQ answers to the questions customers actually search for, using the product data you just cleaned up.

  6. Charge a one-time cleanup fee

Send a Stripe Payment Link for the cleanup fee, with an optional monthly plan for new products.

alanchuang says they handed their wife's Shopify store to an AI agent (OpenClaw) for a weekend, with no developer or agency. It worked through a custom app with read and write access. The agent rewrote product descriptions to be structured and AI-readable, added SEO titles and tags, added metafields such as material, use case, certifications, and care instructions, and expanded the FAQ. The poster says AI shopping assistants already recommend products and that well-labeled product data is what gets stores into those recommendations.

ShibinCo writes that the tools Shopify used to build shop.md are open, so any app can search Shopify products, check sizes and prices, and start a checkout. The poster says the agent picks a store based on what's in its catalog, so 'messy variant names and thin product descriptions are going to cost more now.'
