Turn card decks or party games into paid phone apps

Put a curated deck of conversation questions for couples, or a word list for a party game friends already play, into a simple phone app. Users pay a weekly or monthly subscription to unlock it.

The hard part: writing a deck people feel is worth paying for, and getting it seen in a crowded app store.

Who pays

Couples and friend groups pay a subscription through the app store paywall to unlock the full deck. evgenyeyt reports that one couples question app charges $8.99 a week and has $14,736 MRR (monthly recurring revenue) from 1,812 active subscribers. The same poster reports that a party word game app has $20,109 MRR from 5,307 active subscribers.

How to build it

  1. Pick one deck and audience

Choose a single use, such as date-night questions for couples or a word game for friend groups. Look at the top apps in that space on the App Store to see what they charge.

  2. Draft the questions or words

Ask Claude to draft several hundred questions or game words in your chosen tone, then cut and rewrite them by hand. The list is most of the product, so spend your time here.

  3. Sort the deck into levels

Run each card through a decision model (a fast AI that only makes yes/no or sorting calls) to tag it by theme or by level, such as light, deep, or spicy. Use the tags to build free and paid packs.

  4. Build the app with Claude Code

Use Claude Code or Cursor to build a simple app that shows one card at a time and lets users swipe through packs. Keep the deck in a file inside the app so it works offline.

  5. Add a subscription paywall

Add a weekly or monthly subscription with RevenueCat, which handles Apple and Google in-app payments. Leave a few free cards so people can try it before the paywall.

  6. Publish and test your pricing

Submit the app to the App Store and Google Play. Try different prices and paywall screens, and add new packs to give subscribers a reason to stay.
