Sell a video clipping tool that runs on creators' computers

Build a tool that cuts videos into clips and adds captions in the browser or on the creator's own computer, with no upload and no per-minute cloud fees. Creators tired of clipping subscriptions pay for extras like brand presets, templates, or built-in AI captioning.

The hard part: standing out against free clipping tools that already exist and getting creators to find and trust yours.

Who pays

Creators use the basic clipper for free. They pay a one-time fee or a small monthly fee for brand presets, caption templates, or a built-in AI key so they don't need their own transcription account. No source reports revenue for this model, so this pricing is a suggestion.

How to build it

  1. Build the in-browser clipper

Use Claude Code or Cursor to build a web app that loads a video, lets the creator mark clips, and exports them, with all video processing on their own computer. Browser video libraries can handle this without uploading anything.

  2. Add automatic captions

Pull out the audio and send it to a transcription service such as AssemblyAI to get timed captions. Let users paste their own key for free use.

  3. Add fonts and text overlays

Let creators choose fonts, colors, and caption styles and place text on top of the video. Save these as reusable brand presets.

  4. Lock extras behind a payment

Keep basic clipping free and put brand presets, templates, and a built-in transcription key behind a Stripe checkout.

  5. Launch where creators look

Host the app on Vercel and post short before-and-after demos in creator communities and on X. Lead with no upload, no account, and no per-minute fees.
