Who pays

Local businesses such as restaurants, gyms, real estate agents, and event venues pay for a sponsor slot or ad in the daily email. _May_Ham estimates that a sponsorship-only local newsletter might bring in $5-10 per subscriber per year. That is the poster's general estimate, not reported revenue from a one-city AI newsletter, so any rate card you set is a suggestion.

How to build it

  1. Pick a city and its sources

    Choose one city and list 15-30 places that publish about it regularly: local news sites, city council pages, event calendars, and venue sites. Note which ones offer an RSS feed.

  2. Collect new stories each morning

    Build an n8n workflow that pulls new items from those feeds and pages every morning and saves the headlines and links.

  3. Summarize them with Claude

    Send the day's items to Claude with instructions to write a short, friendly summary for each one and keep the link to the original source. Group them into sections like news, events, and food.

  4. Send the daily email

    Paste or push the finished digest into beehiiv and schedule it for early morning. Skim it each day before it goes out.

  5. Grow local subscribers

    Share the signup page in local Facebook groups, city subreddits, and community boards, and turn on beehiiv's referral program.

  6. Sell sponsor slots locally

    Once you have a few hundred readers, make a simple rate card and pitch local businesses on a daily or weekly sponsor spot, invoiced directly.
